At Stonegate Center, we understand that seeking the right treatment for drug or alcohol addiction is a big decision. But an even bigger consideration is the option between inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation. Knowing that both have its own distinct attributes and benefits, it is best that we take a deeper dive. How do we choose?
Here’s a quick look on the benefits of each:
Inpatient
Stay in the facility |
24/7 care and monitoring |
Social interaction within the facility and its residents |
More exclusive and expensive |
For mild to serious addictions |
Intensive, focused without distractions |
Recovery is possible in 30 days |
Outpatient
Goes for treatment on scheduled visits |
Limited hours of care by a trained staff |
Social interaction is limited without much disruption |
More affordable |
For mild addictions |
Susceptible to outside influences |
Recovery may take longer |
Inpatient Rehabilitation (Residential)
Inpatient rehabilitation is when a patient entering a treatment program for drug and alcohol addiction resides in the facility itself for a full cycle of care with consistent progress monitoring. A facility would have a more focused program designed to achieve the rehabilitation in as little as 45 days provided by a trained staff.
Apart from medical and professional help available at all times, one of the salient features of inpatient rehabilitation is the support group provided by community of co-residents. Sharing experiences, struggles and finding people who understand what the you are going through is a significant part of journey to recovery. Further, a distinct program designed separately for men and women raises the bar to a more personalized care. A gender-focused treatment recognizes the differences between men and women and addresses the needs specifically rather than a one-treatment program fit for all.
Outpatient Rehabilitation
A patient need not stay in a facility for outpatient rehabilitation. The patient has a scheduled visit for the treatment program. This treatment option is best suited for someone with mild addiction or someone who is already sustaining recovery from inpatient care. With outpatient care, the patient may be exposed or at least susceptible to the very source that caused the addiction in the first place.
On the plus side, the patient continues with life as normal as prior to the treatment and remains close to family and friends – the most important support system one can have.
Recovery Is Always a Work in Progress
A patient’s journey to full recovery is a lifetime process-it is always a work in progress. What’s important is the decision to seek rehabilitation and face addiction head on. At Stonegate Center, we provide excellent inpatient care and make sure that our gender-focused and faith-based treatment program for drug and alcohol addictions ensure a successful recovery.
